Brian Sweeney’s Final Call: “I Absolutely Love You”

Brian Sweeney’s Final Call: “I Absolutely Love You”

On September 11, 2001, just three minutes before United Airlines Flight 175 struck the South Tower, passenger Brian David Sweeney called his wife, Julie, for the final time.

His message, left on their voicemail, said:

“Jules, this is Brian. Listen, I’m on an airplane that’s been hijacked. If things don’t go well, and it’s not looking good, I just want you to know I absolutely love you. I want you to do good, go have good times. Same to my parents and everybody, and I just totally love you, and I’ll see you when you get there.”

Julie was teaching her high school class that morning and missed the call. She only heard his voice, and learned what had happened, once she returned home later that day.

A husband’s final words. A message that still stands as one of the most quietly devastating memories from that day.

We remember Brian. We remember all of them.
